This is the world’s most expensive tattoo and is valued at 924,000 US dollars. 8 hours was spent having 612 diamonds (.5 carats each) attached to her skin. The tattoo is worn by South African model (and brand ambassador of Shimanski Jewellers) Minki van der Westhuizen.

I am pretty sure they are microdermal implants.
I have two of them myself, costing about $100 each to have put in.
They are called body modification and are considered piercings not tattoos, although I will admit they are pretty but will be hell to take care of and clean.
